Description
Antique 1790 General George Washington Brass Snuff Box Coin ReplicaThis is an exceptional, early American piece dating from approximately
1790-1800
and depicting "General" (not "President") Washington in great detail (the
epaulettes
for example) and in very close resemblance to a coin of that era.
I believe this to be a snuff box (just as Heritage Auction's determined - see below), but I suppose it could have another historical use. The lid, still to this day, fits just tight enough to stay in place, but is not significantly difficult to remove. The quality of craftsmanship is self-evident, both visual and
tactile.
Refer to the Heritage Auctions (

This box is identical in size at 2-1/8" diameter and height is very close at approximately 1", but instead of the greek key decoration around its circumference, this variation includes a wonderful set of patriotic vignettes each with its own symbolism. These include Drums, Lion, Anchor,
Cannon with Flags and Armaments (including sword)
, Crown of Laurels?, Billowing Sails over Trident (Naval Supremacy) . LOT 42006 realized a hammer price of 1.25 on Nov 8th, 2014. Including the 25% buyer's premium... the total paid would be approximately 6 at that time. I am offering this rare snuff box at a reduced price from that valuation.
Rest assured it will be carefully packed and will ship with additional insurance and signed receipt required,
at my expense.
I AM OPEN to REASONABLE OFFERS.
I
ALSO
will lower the price as
necessary as time passes, but
This item may also go to EBTH or other auction
