    Description

    Welcome to
    Antiques & Moore!
This listing is for a scarce early 1800's papier mache shoe snuff box with lacquered finish. The shoe is decorated with thin silver wire details and the lift top has an abalone shell insert. The silver wire details on the shoe are impressive due to the tight design and the tiny wire used. The design extends from side to side crossing the upper part of the shoe and around the oval lift top. The lacquered finish was done on top of the wire details so they have become faint and are not highly polished. The hinge on the lift lid is tight and the box opens and closes correctly and tightly.
    Measures 1 1/4" high (at heal), 3 7/8" long and is 1 1/16" wide. Weighs .09 ounces.
This nice novelty snuff box is in excellent Estate condition. It's amazing that it survived so perfectly over two centuries. There is some very faint rubbing on the edge of the sole that is barely noticed and is mentioned for accuracy.
