    Description

Handwritten invitation to dine with the Imperial Majesties of Russia, Tsar Nicholas I and Alexandra Feodorovna, at the palace, dated July, 1839. The invitation is in French, and the date is divided to reflect the discrepancy between Russian and European calendars used at that time. Also included is the original envelope, with a partially broken wax seal. The invitation comes from "The Grand Master of Ceremonies," whose name is likely what is written at the bottom of the envelope, but I cannot decipher it.
8" x 10", written on the top page of an otherwise blank four-page folio. Very Good condition, with mailing folds.
From the rest of the collection where this item originates, the recipient is likely the wife of barrister C.K. Murray, Treasurer of the Ecclesiastical Commission in England, although this identification is not definitive.
