The Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour Hall of Fame was created in 1967.
PATTY BERG
(
1918-2006
), who
won ten of 13 amateur tournaments
in 1938, turned pro in 1940 (and began promoting Wilson sporting goods). Her total of
80 victories, including 60 career pro wins (15 majors), has not been matched by any other woman,
even though Berg served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-1945. A
three-time AP Female Athlete of Year
(1938, 1943, she
helped to found the LPGA
in 1948. The organization honored her in 1978 by establishing the
Patty Berg Award
, given annually to the greatest contributor to women's golf.
SANDRA HAYNIE
(b. 1943
)
won 42 LPGA Tour events
, including 4 majors. She was
among the top ten money winners 13 years in a row (1963-1975)
, and for a 14th and final time in 1982. Her first and last tournament victories were 21 years apart. Haynie entered the
World Golf Hall of Fame
in 1977.
NANCY LOPEZ (b. 1947),
four-time LPGA Player of the Year (1978, 1979, 1985, 1988)
, set a record for rookie earnings by both men and women at the beginning of a stellar career. The well-liked but intense competitor,
had 35 tour victories by the age of 30 and was elected to the LPGA Hall of Fame in 1987
.
BETSY RAWLS (
born in Spartanburg, South Carolina in
1928, joined the LPGA tour in 1951, and
went on to
win the U. S. Women's Open her first year on the tour.
She scored 55 wins on the tour, including
eight major tournaments: the U. S. Women's Open
(1951, 1953, 1957 and 1960),
the Women's Western Open
(1952 and 1959) and
the LPGA Championship
(1959 and 1969).
KATHY WHITWORTH
, born in
1939
in Monahans, Texas,
won 88 LPGA tour events between 1962 and 1985
, a record unmatched in the PGA or LPGA.
Seven times she was named LPGA Player of the Year.
Whitworth entered the World Golf
Hall of Fame in 1975

JO ANNE CARNER,
born in Kirkland, Washington in
1939
, compiled a stellar amateur career before turning pro. She is
the only golfer to have won three different USGA amateur championship events
, and her total of five amateur victories is only exceeded by Glenna Collett Vare's total of six. Carner went pro in 1970, after
winning an LPGA event as an amateur in 1969,
and was named
1970 LPGA Rookie of the Year.
She went on to 43 wins on the LPGA tour, including
two wins on the U. S. Women's Open
(1971 and 1976). She was inducted into the
World Golf Hall of Fame in 1982.
BETTY JAMESON
(1919-2009),
born in Norman, Oklahoma, was a founding member of the LPGA. She won 13 events, including the US Women's Amateur title twice (1939-1940).
She won the US Women's Open in 1942 with a 72-hole score of 295, becoming the first woman to score under 300 in for a 4-round tourney.
CAROL MANN (1941-2018)
, born in Buffalo, New York in 1941, joined the LPGA Tour in 1961. She won 38 tour events, including two majors: the US Women's Open in 1965, and the LPGA Championship in 1969. She led the LPGA in wins 3 times, and was the Tour's leading money winner in 1969. After winning many women's amateur golf tourneys,
LOUISE SUGGS
(1923-2015)
won many amateur events before winning
55
pro events, including 11 majors.
Bob Hope reportedly gave her the nickname "Miss Sluggs" after seeing her long drives. She was a
co-founder of the LPGA,
serving as its President from 1955 to 1957, and
an inaugural inductee to the LPGA Hall of Fame
in 1967.
The LPGA rookie of the year award is named for her. MICKEY WRIGHT,
born in San Diego, California in
1935
, won
four U.S Women's Open Golf Championships
and
four LPGA titles.
She has a total of
82 wins on the LPGA tour, second only to Kathy Whitworth's 88 wins.
