  • Condition: Original state displaying fine color, sheen and metal patina. Brass rim aligns perfectly with shell. Cover and hinge excellent - closes securely with a snap. Dark historic tight crack across three-quarters front of the shell - otherwise intact.

    MID-19TH CENTURY SPOTTED COWRIE SHELL & BRASS SNUFF BOX
    I've collected small boxes of merit for over fifty years.  Time for these antique gems to reach appreciative new hands.
    This provincial (likely Scottish) snuff is a beauty of nature and metalworking.   The tongue-shape brass lid has a steel rim and interior cover - opening on a stout hinge to a large compartment and skillfully finished flush brass mounts at shell ends.
