Happy Father's Day!This listing is a
first edition
,
hand-signed autograph
hard cover book from
1971
(50 years old) authored by one of the older, more fiery dispositions of golfers of our lifetime,
Tommy Bolt
, who had the nickname,
"Terrible Tommy"
. I personally saw Tommy throw more than one golf club, and he was probably more responsible than anyone that led to the adoption of a rule prohibiting such behavior.
Tommy was more popular in the
1950s
. He
won 15 PGA Tour titles
in his career, including the
1958 U. S. Open
, and played on two Ryder Cup teams. Tommy Bolt was the fifth PGA Tour player to ever shoot a round of 60, when he did it in 1954 outside Hartford, Connecticut, after making 11 birdies in the second round. Had he not missed a 15-foot putt for a birdie on the 18th green, he would have recorded a 59.
For you younger viewers possibly looking for a gift for your father, in all likelihood you will want to steer away from this book although it is very collectible. It is not a "Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Tiger Woods" type book. This is more for the older collector who remembers the older golfers like Lee Trevino, Julius Boros, Frank Beard, etc. You see, I am nearing 80 years of age, and I remember Tommy Bolt well because I used to go out and watch him play in tournaments. But chances are, you dad would not remember Tommy Bolt, and he would have to be a real collector to adequately appreciate the book. (Just trying to help you!) Tommy passed away in 2008 at the age of 92.
Thank you for viewing my EBAY auction item. (Please note: I do
