    Gold
    Quartz Cabochon
    From California
    E
very day that passes, this type of gold quartz grows scarcer. California's king in sourcing different species of gemstone like this. Photos are enlarged representations of the cab.
    I
call this crazy concoction of mineral complexity 'Rainbow Rock'.
Inside a dense quartz,  shining figurines in gold light up the top, show face of this cushion-cut cab. The oro combines with other residual colors  to paint amber-themed picture.
This rare cab measure 13 mm long, 11.3 mm wide, and 3.1 mm thick. Except to say it's  from California's Mother Lode, the exact origin is unknown. This is natural gemstone, born in the Golden State; exotic even for the Mother of all Lodes. For spectral beauty and rarity, this gem is a winner. What appears as an open, oxidized vug is actually sealed.  Photos fail to capture the full aesthetic.
    A
s the operator/sole proprietor of Gold of Eldorado, I actively mined gold for 18+ years. Beginning long ago, in a past life, perhaps, something in the golden mystique of this rare, precious metal attracted me to it. Searching for Au (gold), working with it in it's multitude of forms has become a life-way. This passion is what fuels my desire to bring these new  discoveries  to your attention.
If, like myself, you're an avid fan of gold, please let me know of any specific sizes, colors, or cabochon-shapes you might be interested in. I may be able to accommodate you with a custom-made creation.

    VANISHING GOLD
It's nerve-wracking as you grind away on the atomizer and
suddenly realize gold is vanishing from a key
position on the stone’s surface where it needed to remain.
Accentuating visible Au inside a cabochon
is the lapidist's goal, so suddenly seeing it de-materialize tends to dampen one's spirits. So now you understand a bit more about the process of finishing a cab.
    Many
of the cabs I make from gold rocks are 'collector stones' - sub-species found in only one, distinct geographical location on our planet. These gem-grade ores
exist, quite possibly, nowhere else on earth. While it's conceivable similar gold-bearing rocks were found in other countries or regions,
those who discovered them never made their existences known.
    With this Rainbow Rock type,
once my scant supply of rough is gone, I
for-see no more like it on the horizon.
