Rare California Gold Rush California Token/1849 Steamship Gaming Counter Lot#777

Description

This early "gold rush" gaming counter (or "California Token") has a steam ship over flag . This is the largest of gaming counters and fairly hard to get. The dye these were stuck on left the center on both sides weak.  All of these California Tokens have the same issue.  This one is in very nice condition.
Most American gaming counters were modeled after US gold coins which ranged is size from .50 cents up to .
These would be used instead of gold dust and nuggets or real coins in poker games. They had no set value or stated denomination. The valuations would be agreed upon on before the game started
