    Description

Nice tumbled specimen of petrified wood from the Saddle Mountain area in Washington State
It has a soft natural look to it......not highly polished.
2.68 ounces and approximately 1 1/2 inches on the cut face and 1 3/4 inches long
Specimens from this area of Eastern Washington date to the Miocene epoch when a series of lava flows from volcanos buried forests and swamps.  When conditions were right, some of these forests and swamps were buried and preserved by silica dissolved from volcanic ash and the basalts.  Much of the wood is various types of conifers, although there are areas that show more diversity and contain hardwoods.
From a rock hounds 60 year collection of material
    Acquired in the 1970's
    Photographed wet in sunlight.
