    Description

This is a used sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This sample features a Hiram B. Scutt patent, dated February 10, 1880. This wire is called "Scutt's Wooden Block Wire with Arrow Plate Barbs", by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 700-B ). This wire features a two round line wires twisted together. Barbs are four pointed, and made from arrowhead shaped pieces of sheet metal. Metal point at end is split and barbing points bent outwards to hold plates in the line wires. This wire also has two original wooden blocks. The blocks were placed in the wire to serve as warning plates, and make the wire more visibile. Plates are grooved on two ends, and line wires placed in the grooves and wires twisted to hold blocks. This sample also has a one line factory splice. This sample is 18" in length and has two barbs, one on each end. There are two blocks, which show some age and weathering. Wire shows age wear, with light pitting. There are no broken or repaired barbs. Wire is in good used condition. There are no off odors. I have listed other wires, both as auction and fixed price listings. We will gladly combine multiple purchases for shipping, when paid on the same invoice ... using the buy it now option. First wire ships for .50; additional wires are fifty cents each extra. Twelve or more wire ship for free.
