Squirrel Feeder Kit

Up for sale is a unique squirrel feeder. It uses a commonly found Mason jar (standard size, not the wide-mouth) and plastic (PVC) 2" fittings.
My squirrels seem to be connoisseurs and eat only peanuts and ignore corn and other cheap foods. As a result, I wanted to build a feeder that kept the food dry. The glass jar allows you keep an eye on amount of food left.
I believe that no feeder is "animal proof", as many animals roam at night and in order to survive are quite crafty. I feel fortunate to find any feeder in one piece in the morning after a visit by one of our hungry friends. It seems the more one pays for 'designer' feeders, the more apt they are to be destroyed.
I have designed a feeder that is low cost, weatherproof and has proven to be quite durable. I have used bird food when I have run out of peanuts, but there is more waste with it. Shelled peanuts (or walnuts) seem to work best, dispensing the right amount.
The kit contains two specially made 2" PVC fittings, a PVC elbow and an aluminum gate. The bottom PVC fitting has two 3/16" holes for mounting on a horizontal surface using wood screws ( I use sheet-rock screws) A bracket can easily be made from wood so feeder can be mounted on a vertical surface. The aluminum gate prevents food from falling out and adds to the support. The vertical fitting is machined to fit a standard sized Mason jar. A quart jar is shown. No cement is used or required as the elbow is removed to refill the glass jar.
Note: I found on several occasions that the Mason jar had been removed. I first blamed raccoons but later found that squirrels were able to lift the Mason jar. I added a bracket that so far has prevented this from happening. The black bracket is shown in the last picture. (A rock could also work).

Glass jars such as peach jars, pickle jars or apple sauce jars may not fit. It is made to fit standard sized Mason brand jars.
