Description
: Up for your consideration is an outstanding example of functional art by the world famous Sasha Brastoff.  This is an ashtray, or now-a-days a trinket dish, created as an enamel on copper presentation.  The subject matter is visually stunning and interesting; you see something new every time you admire it.  The appealing subject matter depicts six cottage type houses with pretty, colorful flower gardens in front.  The work actually has perspective as the detail and scale is reduced with the top dwellings and the bottom dwellings have more detail and are larger.  The very colorful houses and flowers are outlined in shinny gold for dramatic effect.  I especially like the window in the apex of the farthest or top cottage, it is like you can actually look through the window glass and wonder who is inside since the light is on.  The paint was generously applied and the work has texture.  It is hard to believe anyone would actually use this as an ashtray, Luckily nobody has ever used this one as an ashtray it is in excellent condition.  It appears to have been very well cherished during its life as the colors are still vibrant and fresh.  It has a diameter of 6-7/8" and the otter rim is a little over an inch above the table top.    Please super size the pictures to see the nice detail.  We provided a lot of pictures with different lighting to highlight different areas of the artwork.  It is really interesting how the light reflects from the surface of the work.  The bottom right hand side has the famous SASCHAB signature done in gold; it really stands out.  The back of the piece is numbered 107AC and it has three circular felt pads and it has two other circles; not sure what they are, I was thinking they were used to hold the piece while it was being created.  The outer rim shows the copper and it makes a nice little frame around the stimulating work.  If you collect Sascha's work this is a must have.  I have not seen this piece before and would love to know more about it.  We sincerely welcome any other questions or comments you may have via email to our store and we can normally answer your questions in just a few minutes.
