    Description

"So Mauclair takes snuff, does he?" he asked carelessly. "'Yes, Mr. Commissary....Look, there is his snuff-box on that little shelf....Oh! he's a great snuff-taker!" "So am I," said Mifroid and put the snuff-box in his pocket."
~ Gaston Leroux, French author and journalist
Found in an estate in San Francisco, this unique papier mache snuff box dates to the mid 19th century. The body of the box is painted in black lacquer. The lid features an interesting caricature reminiscent of a character in a Dickens novel.
    The box measures 3 3/8" wide x 1 1/2" deep x 1" high.
The box is in excellent overall condition, particularly considering it is over 150 years old. "As found" because there are a few minor spots of wear to the lacquer, but nothing particularly noticeable. Please view the photos carefully and let them guide your judgment. The lid closes tightly and securely.
This little box will make a great addition to your antique tobacciana and/or curiosities collection.
