Vintage Mid Century Sascha Brastoff Pottery Ashtray. This beautiful ashtray was produced by iconic mid century American artist and designer Sascha Brastoff as part of his mosaic series. This series was done in a very distressed style that included crackle finish borders and a deeply textured mosaic design in colors of periwinkle blue, turquoise, teal, indigo blue, brown, tan, and cream, with accents of both shiny and matte gold. The affect is one of an ancient art technique presented in a modern and sophisticated form. It is beautiful! Ashtray measures 7 6/16" square and stands 1 3/4" tall. The mosaic base of the tray is 1" tall. Signed both front and back, with gold rooster and M5 California USA on back. I have looked this over very carefully and find it to be in excellent condition. It is done in a distressed style so variations in color on the back and rough edges and corners are as it was meant to be when designed and crafted. There are no cracks or fractures. One corner has a chip in the glaze. There is slight wear to the accent gold on the tray. Otherwise this piece, which I believe was produced in 1955, is in outstanding condition.
